Taylor is New Skipper...

After an unseemly delay of three months following the last AGM, I can confirm that I have agreed to become onfield Captain of the Shipwrecks for the coming midweek season. Meanwhile Geoff Dean will retain an overall responsibility for selection and in his longstanding role as Treasurer and Team Svengali, while Alastair MacEwan stays on as vice-captain.

Apologies for the long delay, but after playing for Shipwrecks for twenty years without being asked, I rather thought the Captaincy might have passed me by.

I would like to tell you that we are about to embark on an exhaustive pre-season training schedule, but I understand that according to the Shipwrecks Constitution (Has anyone seen it lately?) extensive practice between fixtures is not allowed. I also thought it would be really nice to get everyone turning out in whites with club shirt and cap next season, but another reality check suggests that we will again end up looking more like a pirate crew than the Royal Navy. Although a bit smarter when we win something...

So the only thing I can promise is that we will again aspire to be moderately successful on the field while enjoying the lighter side of the game (including hopefully a regular post-mortem in The Ship) and giving all who play a reasonable chance of cricket stardom.
